Spain top choice for British second home buyers

The number of Britons buying overseas property has risen by more than 60% over the last five years with Spain being the favourite choice, says a Government report
There are now 211,000 households with second homes abroad, up from 129,000 in 2000/01, according to the Housing in England report 2005/06, which has just been published.
The most popular countries are Spain, where 34% have bought on average over the last three years, France, with 23% and the United States with 16%, However, figures were joined together for ‘other European countries (34%) and other non-European countries (32%). These had doubled from the previous report’s totals.
